Dining and drinking in SoHo, South of Hollywood Road – including Wyndham, Staunton and Elgin streets – is a chic experience. Cosy cocktail bars frequented by A-list celebs get lively after midnight with DJs and dancing on tables.

Hip clubs and bars now sit comfortably amid sleazy joints and traditional pubs on Lockhart Road. Listen to late-night jazz in champagne bars or down cocktails on Star Street, then sample Wan Chai’s unpretentious all-night clubs.

Drink in top-floor bars in plush hotels for that killer view of the harbour lights and skyline. The local crowd head to Minden Avenue, Peking Road and Knutsford Terrace, for karaoke, DJ bars and glamour.

For late-night partying, head for Lang Kwai Fong and SoHo open till 3-4am, especially at weekends. Make the most of Happy Hours and special offers – everyone else does – when drinks are often two-for-one; this makes the steep prices more palatable. Some of the trendier clubs have dress codes, so scruffy clothes and trainers may be turned away by discerning doormen.

Visit the Big Buddha to the soothing Buddhist Palm, from top Hong Kong flick Kung Fu Hustle. Take a bus ride through the busy roads to Rush Hour by Hong Kong’s favourite son Jackie Chan. Get ready for a night out with Hong Kong Garden by Siouxsie and the Banshees.
